I would welcome a comparsion of Amadeus, Viking, Uniworld, and Vantage companies for river cruising. If you have used one or more of these, I would love to hear your views.

You might get better info if you were to specify what destinations you are considering - France? China?

We used Viking River Cruises for China last fall. We are normally not tour people, but decided due to the destination we would be more comfortable using a tour. The intinerary was very full. Busy all the time. Ship on the Yangze not as nice as an ocean cruise ship but overall we enjoyed the trip.

Friend of mine just used Uniworld for a trip Prague and Budapest. They did not enjoy it, but then they are avid ocean cruisers. Said they found the pace too slow and food not as good.

Sorry I did not specify where we were going! We would like to cruise the Danube beginning with a day or two in Prague then continuing down the river to Budapest.

My husband and I took a Danube cruise with Avalon (Globus) a couple of years ago. We spent 2 nights in Prague at the start, followed by a 7-night cruise ending in Budapest. The staterooms were very comfortable and roomy enough, the ship was in fine condition, the food was quite good, and the wine with dinner was free! I believe Avalon and Amadeus are related.

We cruised from Amsterdam to Basel last year with Uniworld/Trafalgar. We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and have no complaints about the cabin, food, crew or anything else. The shore excursions were excellent.
We have just booked for next year - a longer cruise, this time with Avalon, just for a change.

Amadeus is getting rave reviews from people who have used other river cruise companies and now prefer Amadeus. Their boats are the newest, free internet in the cabins and complimentary wine with dinner each night.
