United Summer Sale to Frankfurt!

I think it's a one day type of sale.

My husband just happened to hop on traveocity and found r/t airfare at the end of July to Frankfurt for $720.00 (includes all taxes and fees) so we hopped on United.com and found the same exact flight for $715.54 per person. We of course jumped on this deal and saved $1000 (the going rate was close to $1200 per ticket r/t for the same flight prior to today).

I had been searching since October and couldn't find anything cheaper than $1100 for this same exact flight ... my husband jumps on and gets the sale. Go figure!

It's a non-stop from Dulles to Frankfurt end of July and returning mid August. We were able to get both tickets for $1430.00 instead of $2400.00. My holding out paid off. Yeah!

I spoke to a customer service rep at United and she said that this sale is showing in their system as a 1 day sale ending at midnight tonight.

I hope others are able to take advantage of this!!

Well done. I have been looking for europe flights for a few months as well. I was able to get a great ticket on usair.com. SFO-FRA then LIS-SFO for $798. I orginally found the deal on orbitz, however when i tried to purchase the ticket there, they claimed the price went up. After a few days, i just went to usair.com and purchased the flights i wanted all along.

My husband and I just booked tickets on 4/13/06 to fly to Frankfurt on 5/5/06 for US$1228.00 including all fees and taxes. We are flying direct from Orlando FL to Frankfurt on Condor Airlines. See www.condor.com. As I understand it, they are the more budget minded division of Lufthansa.
I heard about them from my cousins German friend who was over here visiting. She says they're well known over there. I couldn't get their flights to come up when I tried Expedia, Travelocity or Orbitz, but their direct website works just fine!
We had been planning to go since January, but had kept looking for better fares, then she told us about Condor! Not sure how many cities they fly from and to, but worth a look....
Happy Traveling!

katzen, I liked your story. We watched the fare from Detroit to Frankfurt on NWA since December...it was $1026 until late March, then dropped to $775, so we jumped on it. Then last week it dropped to $480! Can you believe it? On a tip from a friend, my husband called NWA and they gave him a voucher for the difference in the fare toward his next flight - the voucher will basically pay for another flight! This was the first time we heard of this voucher offer - is it commonly known? Do other airlines do this?

WanderWoman, Yes, we were very excited to find this airfare. Of course it'll probably go down to $400 in another month or so. I do believe United offers the vouchers as well. We had a catagory S (I think) which simply means that we have TONS of restrictions so I'm not sure if United would honor a better fare. I will certainly keep looking and call United if I find a better fare. My husband advises me to stop looking .. but I tell him I've been looking since October, why stop now! It's become an addiction

What's funny is the base fare was close to $400 and the taxes bumped it up to $715. Crazy.

I know what you mean about an addiction, but it pays off if the voucher offer holds when the price drops. But over $300 in additional taxes? That's outrageous! Hope United gives vouchers as well. Anyway, you have a good price for that time of year, so have a great time in Germany!

Some of that $300 might be fuel charge as well as taxes.

Was there an American Airlines sale as well? I feel these things are so hit and miss. I got my flight to Amsterdam (through London from RDU) and return from Nice (again through London, to RDU) for total $650 on American...(through expedia). I booked a month ago.

I'm not sure if there was an American sale ... we were keeping our eye on United due to the fact they flew direct from IAD to Frankfurt. My husband is very tall so the thought of sitting in an airplane for over 8 hours was not appealing to him. I checked the same route a few days ago on United and it was up to around $1200.

RufusTFirefly, yes, I do believe fuel was added in that charge as well.

Thanks WanderWoman!! We plan on it .. it's the 'big' trip/honeymoon before we start having kids.

What am I doing wrong? On, United.com, I entered several different dates around the end of July and returning mid-August, and came up with vastly higher fares? Thanks.

Maire, the special we found for $715 was for 2 days only on April 16 and April 17 (Easter Sunday and Monday). Not sure if the fare was offered on the Saturday before. Keep searching ... the sale fares are out there ... they can pop-up at any given day at any time. Currently the fare for this trip on United is around $1200. Keep checking daily. Good Luck!

Thanks, Katzen. I didn't notice that your original posting was the 16th...thought it was today. Glad you found good fares.
