Uffizi - We would love to see some of the major works housed in the Uffizi, but we have only a short, very specific window of time- no more than 90 minutes , on a designated day. The online cost to reserve the timeslot that best accommodates us includes a hefty online booking fee and exhibition fee. Our crowded schedule does not give us the luxury of waiting on a que for entrance. What is the exhibition fee? Any advice ? Is it a foolish attempt on our part to try to squeeze in the visit like this? Thank you for your insights!

Any time there is a special exhibition at museums in Italy, an exhibition fee (typically 3-5€) is tacked on to the admission price. You can not avoid paying it. The online reservation fee is 4€ + admission + exhibition (check dates as it might not be there when you plan to be).

If you're staying in Florence for at least one night, ask your hotel to make your Uffizi reservation. That will save you the online booking fee.

One thing I would recommend about the Uffizi, is that you scope out what you want to see in advance, and make a bee line for those rooms. For example, we always reserve for the first time slot, (ask our hotel to reserve for us) and go straight to the Botticelli room....then work our way back. A number of rooms, obviously including this one are always packed. I believe that the Uffizi is open late one evening, but assume your schedule cannot accomodate this.

Maybe. Someone reported last year that their hotel tacked on a big fee for booking their tickets so be sure to ask first.

Even with prebooked tickets we have waited up to an hour to go into the Ufizzi which is the most visited museum in Italy. This was not peak season either. You would probably be fine over the winter. Maybe another museum would be a better choice given your time constraint. We love the Bargello which is never as crowded and has some wonderful sculptures while the building itself is fascinating. As you seem to have concerns about cost, this may not be of much help for you, but hiring a guide will solve both your admission problem and lack of time, and will be well worth it besides. We used Marzia Valbonesi from "Walks Inside Florence" when there last year and she could not have been better. Not cheap, but well worth it.
