Should I book at these places in florence to avoid the crowd

When I was reading the posts on florence it seems booking a ticket at some of the places of interest is a good idea. I will be in Florence and Venice the first week of feb so do I still need to book to avoid the long wait? I intend to go see galleria degli uffizi, pallazzo medici riccardi, palazzo pitti and the galleria dell'accademin.

Diffently book the museums in Florence. We waited until we got to our room and that was okay. We were there in Spring so it wasn't the busy time of the year. We still went in another door a head of the crowds. You do have to be there on time.

Regardless of the time of year, booking the museums ahead really does make life easier.
Enjoy!

Hi B,

Here are the phone numbers:

Secret Itineraries tour of Doge’s palace Phone number is 011 39 041 520 9070.

Uffizi and Academia Museum Reservations
The easiest and cheapest way is to call Florence 011 (U.S. international access code) 39 (Italy's country code) then 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time. You will get an English speaking operator and in 2-3 minutes YOU CAN RESERVE FOR BOTH. This is through the reservation service at the Uffizi and costs beyond the normal entry fee only about 1.60 euro for the service. This is MUCH cheaper than the commercial booking services.

You will not be charged for the reservations unless you use them.

I do not think you will need advance reservation for these museums in february. I would check with your hotel concierge on this matter. I would guess that you could easily wait until you got to your hotel before making your reservations.

There was a big lineup for the Uffizi on Jan. 2. I was quite happy to pay the small fee for my reservation. So I'd get reservations for that even if you don't need them. I visited the Accademia late on Dec. 31, and although it was crowded, I did not need my reservation (so saved the small fee).

Admittedly that was around New Year's, but I'm not sure Florence has much of a low season.

As Ira mentioned, you won't be charged for the reservations if you don't use them, so it can't hurt to make them (and the calls need cost only a few cents each).

Ira, thanks for the great information. We will be in Florence in March and will be happy to make use of it. We have been in Florence in February when the line to get into the Uffizi was two hours long, and the Accademia almost as bad. Remember that lots of European Schools get winter vacations, just as ours do, and Florence is a favored destination.

You are welcome, Trav.

What's your budget for accomodations in Florence?

Message for Ira

I thought this thread had disappeared. We are staying at the Tourist Hotel Ghiberti because of the recommendations on Fodors. Will let you know how it works out. Thanks for asking. You always have helpful information and we can count on you to respond to questions. Sorry I was so slow with an answer.
