Ubers in Italy? Milan? Como?
Hi! We will be flying into Milan mid-September. After a couple of days there, we will be heading to Menaggio on Lake Como. We have priced a private driver to our accommodations in Menaggio and finding it very expensive. Are Ubers plentiful in Milan? Any estimate of what the cost may be from Milan to Menaggio? (Looks to be a 1 hour and 15 minute drive - if I believe the internet). There is also a chance we may be able to travel to Como and possibly just need a ride from Como to Menaggio. Would it be difficult to find an Uber in Como? (I realize that trains/busses would be much cheaper, but need a private car for personal reasons). Thanks in advance!

Uber does not exist in Italy, at least how I understand it. If you must hire a driver, your options will be Taxi or a transfer service.
I have not personally used a transfer service in Milan since 2017, so my recommendations might be outdated. I hope others chime in with more recent recommendations.

FWIW, the drive from Milan to Menaggio will take more than 1:15. Depending on traffic, day of the week, etc., it could take a lot longer, possibly even 2 hours. And the driver has to round-trip which accounts for the high cost.
You may have specific reasons for wanting a private transfer from Milan to Menaggio, but I would take the train from Milano Centrale to Varenna-Esino, walk the short distance to the ferry dock (gorgeous view of the lake on the way) and ride the mid-lake ferry to Menaggio. Maybe 12 euros total per person. Overall, this takes longer than driving but less than an hour longer. And you do have the additional steps of getting from the MIlan hotel to train station and ferry dock to Menaggio hotel, as well as carrying your luggage.
Uber exists in some large Italian cities but not in the service structure that we have in the U.S. There may be Uber Black in Milan, but I suspect the cost would be similar to a private driver because of the round-trip factor. I think you can use the Uber app to book rides with licensed taxis, but there are other, more popular, taxi apps... like FreeNow and ItTaxi.

I have used UberBlack in Milan, you use the same app you already have. There is no other type of Uber, the drivers I had were professional drivers in suits, driving Mercedes'. A good experience but probably the same price as a private driver.
There will be lots of taxis in Como.
