Yes, we've stayed there two--twice. We recommended the hotel to friends, who absolutely loved it. Their question since has been "Is it as good as Tylney Hall?" The grounds as Tylney Hall are really, really beautiful, and you can play croquet.

Hi
Thanks so much, but had to let you know, I heard back from Tylney Hall and they are totally booked, this is for Nov. 11, Tues. I couldn't believe it, must be conferences or something.
Have not heard back from Great Fosters yet.
I might have to see what other really nice hotels are within reach of Heathrow, might have to go a bit further.
I really don't want to stay at airport hotels, not a way for me anyway to end a really nice trip.
Thanks again. Joanie

Hello
Sorry to bother you again, but do you know the hotel,
Gravetye Manor, West Sussex?
It is a Relais & Chateau and looks really nice, not formal like the other two, but lots of grounds/gardens.
Thanks, Joanie

Cliveden House is a National Trust property, operated partly as a hotel. It was once the home of the Astors, I believe.
Gravetye Manor would be farther from the airport, but it's a lovely place. We had the principal bedroom, with an oldish Hollywood-style bathroom complete with a fire exit over the tub. In terms of airport convenience it wouldn't be too good, unless you have a mid-day flight. Don't underestimate the formality; Gravetye Manor, when we were there, was very English Country Week-end.

Hello
You have been a big help. Yes Cliveden is a National
Heritage property and is 20 min. from airport. The grounds look beautiful, very expensive.
I wrote to Gravetye Manor for info. but not replied yet, but this being Sunday too.
Will have to see how long the drive is from there to Heathrow. Hopefully it is under 40 min.
It sounded like you had the nicest room and on top floor, which is what we like.
Thanks again, Joanie

Hi
Thanks, I just heard from Great Fosters, and they are almost all booked, no historic rooms left, so would not enjoy the normal room. Still waiting to hear from the Gravetye and Cliveden. Wow, I sure am surprised how booked these hotels are in November, maybe because they are close to London or business travellers. Joanie

It might also be because they are so convenient to Heathrow. Also, there just aren't that many hotels of their type.
