Two sites in one day?

Is it possible and practicable to visit both Windsor Castle and Hampton Ct. Palace in one day? The train schedules are awful -- have to go all the way back to Clapham Junction to get the train to the other destination and it takes 90 minutes. Is there a bus or boat between the two that's more direct (the TfL website didn't indicate a boat that stopped at both places)?

Is it possible and practicable to visit both Hever Castle and Chartwell in one day (different day than Windsor/Hampton Ct)? They're both off the same rail station, but seem to be in different directions. Is there a bus that connects the two?

Thanks in advance.

You can do either trip easily in one day - if you rent a car and start early. By train - I think a huge pain.

This site tells you how to get from Windsor to Hampton Court or vice versa by public transport, looks at least one or two changes and about 90 minutes:

www.travelsoutheast.org.uk

Hever and Chartwell are quite close to each other--I would take public transport to one, then a taxi to the other, then back to the station by public transport.

Rather than try to do HC and Windsor in one day, why not combine each with a half day or a bit less of activities in London? Both are the type of site where you can spend two hours or an entire day or any amount of time in between.

Cathinjoe -- Did you mean www.traveline.org.uk? That came up with an average of just under two hours for the various modes to get from Windsor to Hampton Court. So it seems like two days out for these would be better.

Both of those sites are pretty intense, and really deserved to be enjoyed slowly. Even if transportation was perfect, I would spread them over 2 days.

Yes, Traveline defaults to Travelsoutheast.org but you can't get to that url directly--or at least I couldn't when I just tried.
Sorry, but anyway, it's the same info.

I think you've come to the right conclusion. You'll enjoy the time much more.

Janisj, a very knowledgeable poster, just gave someone else some good advice about train out to Hampton Court and boat back but I can't find the post. She may see this and add more detail.
