Nice pics. I was there last August and we seemed to have been to some of the same places. Your indoor pictures turned out nice, mine were not so good.
Did you like the Ilhara Valley? We drove down from the North side, parked near the restaurants and walked to 3 chapels.

I took the 365 steps down to the valley, and then back up. I also saw only three chapels, in part because we were somewhat mislead by the guidebook and the street signs as to what to see. I would have liked to spend more time in the Ihlara valley.

Thanks for the photos. I had always wondered why people wanted to go to Turkey and then I got my first taste of it last week on a cruise with a stop Ephesus. I don't know if it was the people, the beauty of the country, or the food, but I know I want to go back. It was my favorite of all stops. Please do give a trip report.

Yes, can't wait for the trip report!
We left Goreme, saw a small underground city, then drove to Ilhara. You enter (from the North) via this tight, downhill, twisty dirt road going through a village with a couple of goats and some old buildings and you wonder...and then, greenery. We walked to two chapels on the right of the stream, then crossed over and saw one more. I believe your steps are near the end of the walk we took (at/near first two chapels, on that side). It was very warm, so our time in the valley was a nice relief. Another memorable moment was eating afterwards in the entrance restaurant area, outdoors, on a wooden platform built over the stream, the floor lined with oriental carpets (so you had to go barefoot)and plush pillows on the seats....eating fish, listening to the stream and whiling away the time.

Interesting that the picture taken "blindly" (I hold the camera waist high, keep it at wide angle and just snap as unobtrusively as possible) should turn out to be a favorite.

Great pictures, Michael, and I am so pleased you visited the Chora Church, Rustempasha Mosque and the Archaeological Museum, which were definitely the highlights of my own trip to Istanbul in April.
