turkey

I just got back from a tour in Turkey. It was one of the best trips I have gone on. Definitely go and enjoy. We were there for 17 days. three in Istanbul.flew to Kayseri and rode bus to Goreme.Stayed at the kapadokva lodge which had good buffet and nice pool but was away from things. Did the hot air balloon ride with kapadokla balloons which was fun but expensive. Drove to Antalya and then pick up gulet for 6 day cruise in Fenike. They used Surgun's boat where we had consistently the best food in turkey.Next kusadasi where we stayed at the Kismet hotel.Food was just fair, rooms might be hot in summer but the view was wonderful. There didn't seem to be that many cruise ships when we were there, just glad I wasn't on one. In fact when we were at epheses we were almost the only ones there. Be sure to go at 08:30 to beat cruise ships and heat.I preferred med.over the aegean.10 days will require tough decisions.

Nice food report. I didn't pay much attention to the food but did notice that Turks are very friendly people.

jean1st - Glad you enjoyed your trip! We did almost the same itinerary in Sept. We stayed in Urgup while in Cappadocia and enjoyed it immensely. Because we did not think we were adventurous enough, we opted against the balloon ride. Turned out to be a wise decision, as we now have an excuse to return! It must be spectacular to float over that eerie lanscape! We also stayed at the Kismet, but because of a large wedding being held on the hotel grounds we were upgraded to a suite. Our rooms had "in-wall" AC units and I am sure all rooms had such units as the only complaint I ran across was someone who was upset that the unit dripped on his balconey! It is a little far from town however. As for food, I thought I would starve in Turkey as I cannot stand eggplant - wrong - we routinely had excellent food. It became our routine after dinner to stroll the streets and get some ice cream for desert. The Black Mulberry was delicious.

Isn't it interesting that Italian Guide has registered on Fodors and has made a total of 5 posts here. All 5 of those posts were to rave about Goreme Balloons. Never a comment about any other aspect of travel.

Of course, I'm certainly not accusing him of advertising or having an ulterior motive. I just think it's interesting that someone who is supposedly a guide has only found one thing in all of Europe worth posting about.

Souds like he is TURKISH. Or he pretend he is knowledgeable Italian tour guide About Cappadocia BUT HE IS NOT.

Duh, I didn't even realized he went to the trouble of looking up this 6 month old post to add his advertisement to. Even stranger.

This is too much. Several days ago, I contacted the Fodors Editors about Italian Guide constantly bringing up all the old Turkish posts and advertising Goreme Balloons. They must have removed his posts and banned him, since that's all he ever posted here.
Now we get his replacement, who can't have any clue who this Italian Guide is, yet he claims to know that he has no relation with their company. His post makes no sense unless he had read the posts before they were removed. Duh. Do you think it's the same guy?

Anybody who uses this company deserves what they get!!!

Dear Patrick,

Suat Ulusoy who is working in the GOREME BALLOONING company (I don't know him) try to apologize. Maybe suat was Italian_guide or not this is not the issue. The issue was ADVERTISE of BALOONING Company which YOU SOLVED.

Forget it PLEASE.

Marsh, I wouldn't look for an answer from jean if I were you. This is the last time she posted on Fodor's -- eight months ago!!

This post was only revived for the purpose of illegal advertising.
