Tube from Tower Hill to Heathrow?

My family of 4 will be in London in June.
We will need to travel on a Saturday afternoon from our apartment near the Tower of London to Heathrow airport. We will have 2 medium suitcases.

Would it be reasonable to take the tube from Tower Hill to Heathrow, with a train change at Acton Town? Approximately how much would it cost per person? 2 adults+ boy-17 and girl-14years.

How much time should we allow to get to the airport? Thank you for your help! Laurie

The best place to switch to the Picadilly line is at Hammersmith because you just have to walk to the other side of the same platform.

I'd guess the trip would take about 1 hr 10 minutes, allowing for changing lines.

Is that 2 medium suitcases each? If so, the only caution I would add is that toting much luggage on the Tube can be a challenge. Make sure every family member can lift and carry his or her own bags...in case you run into non-functioning elevators or escalators (and be careful with luggage on escalators).

The Underground's journey planner (http://www.thetube.com) routes this trip as:

District line from Tower Hill to S. Kensington, switch to Picadilly line, to Heathrow. Total time is just under 1 1/4 hours. Fare is £3.70 adult, £1.50 children (under 16).

Hope this helps.

David White
http://www.KidsToLondon.com

South Kensington is the first possible transfer point - but The problem w/ changing at S Kens is the stairs and platform change between lines. At Hammersmith you simply cross the platform. Much easier with luggage, or without for that matter.

Thanks for your help, David and Janis. We will only have two medium suitcases between all 4 of us, plus a backpack each. 17 year old son or Mom or Dad should not have a problem with the rolling luggage.

I really appreciate the advice. Laurie

Changing at Hammersmith is better. I used to be idiot by changing at Gloucester Road. One must take the stairs then a lift.
