Yeah. Queue up for an hour. Then I join the queue the last and we take a bus and I am first out.
Happened last week again.

If you don't have wheels you keep your luggage - like me with my backpack.

If you do you give your luggage when boarding and get it back when leaving the plane.

Yes, but if you are first out, you have to wait a while till they unload late checked luggage and placed on a trailer or tarmac which can take 5 min or so.

Thanks for all the info. We're in the very, very early planning stages for a spring trip PHL - DUB - LGW - DUB - PHL.

You may wonder why not do an open jaw...the answer is cost. Open jaw increases the trans-Atlantic fare by about $400 per person, while the extra RyanAir ticket back to DUB is about $50 per person. Of course, if the price differential changes, we'll re-consider.

For us, LGW is the best choice, because the hotel we always stay at is two blocks from Victoria Station, so Southern Railways from LGW to Victoria is faster than from LHR and makes us eligible for the Day's Out 2-for-1 vouchers.

BTW...is there an iPhone app for Gatwick Airport? (Dublin Airport has one that looks pretty good...even shows estimate times through security.

I wish they would check the size, because often there isn't room in the cabin for all the carry-on bags, and those who board towards the end have to gate check bags that are well within the limits.>>

me too, bvl. it drives me nuts when I've taken the trouble to make sure i stay within the rules and there are all these others who haven't bothered at all with their oversize bags which won't go in the overhead lockers properly and are holding up boarding possibly causing us to miss our slot.

ssander - read it all carefully, you'll be fine.
