This site is not the proper place for political commentary. I am an American and visit this site to gain insight and advise on travel to the U.K., NOT to read everyone's pompous attitudes. Please stick to the reason for this forum.

>>Seriously what good does Commonwealth membership bring<<

It provides an umbrella network for mostly technical and educational co-operation projects, not just top-down "aid" but also peer-to-peer (one reason why Rwanda and Mozambique asked to join), plus an annual get-together for heads of government encompassing between them contacts across a wide range of other groups across the globe (e.g., G8/20, BRICS, and every continent) - mostly a talking-shop but the kind of relatively informal, no-pressure venue for ideas to be floated and discussed outside the formal international structures. All of that's facilitated by at least some common heritage.

And not that it's that much of a boon, but citizens of Commonwealth countries who do live in the UK are entitled to vote here.

The US wouldn't be a useful member of the Commonwealth. But if Trump is so keen, why don't you just take him? His mother was Scots, so he's probably eligible for citizenship.

His mother was Scots, so he's probably eligible for citizenship.

Fortunately he isn't.
