Tropea

Hi, my girlfriend and I are on a low budget, hoping to stay in a descent hotel see blue water, do some hiking, and stay relaxed without renting a car. Is Tropea a good idea? It seems that the prices are much lower down there? Is there descent hiking? We have about three days two nights for that part of the trip. Any hotel ideas or other suggestions?

I am also looking into traveling to Tropea in early June but have been unable to find much information about hotels or rentals. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

I saw Tropea in August as a day trip from my family's home. It is a very beautiful town up on a cliff, and below it there are beautiful, sandy beaches.

Opposite the town, on a steep rock, are the remains of the Benedictine Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell'Isola. The garden behind it has beautiful views and was full of cute, fuzzy animals running around (kittens, rabbits, etc.)

When I researched hotels at one point it seemed as if they were mostly for 1 week stays. The town looked like it could definitely keep you occupied for a few days, coupled with some beach time.

From tropea.biz, this 3 star looks quite cute:

Thank you very much for your help. Good sites to start looking. Has anyone taken the train from Rome to Tropea (overnight?) Thanks again.

On the Calabrian coast, have stayed in hotels at: Lamezia Terme,Locri, Bianco, Reggio di Calabria, Scilla, Bagnara di Calabra, Palmi and Tropea.

Specifically for Tropea, stayed at the Terrazzo sul Mare beginning of October. Great little balcony with stunning sunsets of a red sun dropping into Stromboli. Room was large, comfortable bed, but bathroom was small. I thought the Euro 60 was an good rate, especially for the view. They had private stairs down the cliff face to get to the beach.

Yes, near Tropea in Parghelia. This will be our third trip there in as many years. We stay at Hotel Porto Pirgos-private beach, two pools, etc. It's beautiful.
