trip to France

back from a 3 week trip to Paris and Burgundy in May. Spent 4 days in Paris, 1 week on barge cruise on Burgundy Canal and 1 week travelling in Burgundy by car. We have been to Paris several times so tried some new things-the Cluny Museum where the tapestries were outstanding-also happened to be there for a free noon concert of medieval folk songs with 2 soloists. Ate at the Sarrasin (crepes) on Isle St. Louis and Leon de Bruxelles(mussels)on Blvd. Ste Germaine-strolled through Parc Monceau-discivered BHV-and at the d'Orsay discovered a beautiful still life of flowers in a vase that I don't recall seeing before-next installment will be Burgundy

Hate to show my ignorance...but what is BHV??

The Cluny Musuem is one of my favorites because it is small scale enough to get close to things and I've never been when it is crowded.

Any memorable cities, meals, hotels in Burgundy by car?

Thanks for posting!

BHV (Baazar Hotel de Ville) is a fabulous department store on rue Rivoli near the city hall. It appears to specialize in home decorations. The basement is the most extensive hardware department I have ever seen. In another department there were hundreds of drawer pulls on display, also door knobs. The linens were spectacular. I felt like a kid in a candy shop-with everything too expensive to buy (with CDN dollars-1E=$1.60) But an ex-employee who was there visiting talked me into buying a set of sheets that I love but the pillow cases aren't the size I wanted. I am not usually a big shopper so I didn't know about VAT refunds. I found out this time and am a awaiting my tax refund. I will write about my Burgundy trip on another thread.
