Trip help now!

We are in Coimbra. We have no reservation for tonight, as we were able the cancel our second night here previously ( have enjoyed being here-see trip report ). Unfortunately, lots of rain forecasted. We have reservations in Porto Thursday for 3 nights. Any thoughts/ideas? Is a day trip to the Douro Valley possible and how would you suggest doing that- tour or self drive? We are willing to lose $ if we need to cancel Porto, all or some. Need to be in Cascais Sat.

Appreciate any help. A little sleep deprived, as the hotel in Coimbra is good-bedding, size of room, etc.,- there was noise on the pedestrian street where we had a balcony overlooking…what was I thinking!

Hi
I would skip the Douro valley, at this time of year the vineyards don't look their best ( no leafs on vines, muddy ground from rain).

I would spend the time in Porto.
Large city with indoor options for rainy days (Port wine cellars, Bolsa Palace, museums, art galleries, religious monuments, etc).

My suggestion is the yellow bus, hop on hop off 48 hour ticket so you're not rushed.
The bus stops at the major attractions so you don't have to walk and stay dry.
They also have a river cruise in Porto.

Thank you. Going to Porto and see how it goes with your advice and some from Progol, too. Appreciate Fodor’s folks!
