Hi we're going to Germany at the end of september 2004 on cheap Ryan air flights from Kerry airport for 3 nights. But I didn't realise when we booked them how far away Hahn airport was from Frankfurt so we've decided to stay closer to Hahn. My only problem is I can't find any information so far on surrounding towns and how to get to them so anyone whos already been to this area can you give me recommendations please

Dear PinkyJack
Hahn will put you very close to both the Mosel and Rhine valleys, both beautiful wine areas. Renting a car is probably your best bet (this is what we did and had no trouble at all) There are several car rental places at Hahn. Do searches on this board, or other travel sites for Mosel and Rhine Valleys--lots of people here on this site can give you good advice. In Sohren, right outside the gates of Hahn, we stayed at Ferienhof "zu den Linden". They have a guest room plus nice holiday apartments you can rent.

Pinky: There is no train service at Hahn, but there are several bus companies that send off buses from Hahn to nearby cities several times per day. If heading to Cochem as the title of this thread implies, take the bus to Bullay and then ride the train a few minutes into Cochem. Jozi-Reisen is the company that operates buses into Trier, if that is your destination. We rode into Trier last year on this little 20-seater in about an hour. There are 3 or 4 different stops at Hahn, posted with the bus company signs, and all within a stone's throw of the terminal entrance. You can get more bus information on this page at the Hahn airport site; just click on your destination:

bettyk: A consideration might be where you will go after the Mosel Area. I would do Cochem (as a base) two nights and Trier one night, but you will need the better part of a day if you are to go up to the Coliseum, see the Roman Baths, tour the Roman Gate, see the marvelous cathedrals and wander the old town into the evening.
Do yourself one favor, don't make Burg Eltz a maybe. You will never see a more beautiful Castle anywhere. Have a great trip.

Joegri, I think we will do Trier first and then drive to Cochem for the next 2 nights. We will stop in Bernkastel and Beilstein for a quick look around on our way to Cochem. The next day, we plan to see Burg Eltz and more of Cochem. From Cochem, we are probably going to Hornburg Castle for a couple of nights via Heidelburg.
