How long are you staying for?
I would say it's not worth staying that far away. If I was trying to keep accommodation costs low I would settle for somewhere cheaper in Venice than stay further out.
If you think the main part of Venice is too expensive, are there any cheaper options on Lido or in Mestre for you which are a lot nearer than Treviso?

To me, one of the charms of Venice was wandering the streets in the evening, after the crowds had died down. If you stay elsewhere, even Lido or Mestre, you will miss that opportunity.
I would look long and hard for less expensive lodgings in Venice (perhaps a convent or hostel) so I could spend more of each day there.
