I am having the same problems and will resign to purchasing them upon arrival. We have a party of 6 and I was looking to buy train tickets from Rome-Florence, Florence-Venice, and Venice-Rome. I have tried repeatedly and also created new accounts and used almost every card I have (Citi, Amex, Visa).

Sigh. Anyway, safe travels everyone.

Went back after a month from my first purchase to buy the last of my tickets (I was over the limit otherwise), and lo and behold, Amex denied the charge again. A single phone call took care of it, though, immediately. I'd recommend using Amex and calling just before you make the purchase or after the first denial.

I am just about ready to give up. I have had 4 different accounts, tried 2 credit card (both companies assure me the cards should be fine) and I cannot get tickets. I like to plan ahead, but in this case I think they have forced me to just wait and buy a day in advance......very against my nature!

Geez... I too wish I would have found this thread yesterday after spending hours of trying to figure out the problem. My story is the same. I successfully purchased one set of tickets online, but was unable to complete any other purchase (15 minutes later) due to payment denied. Did what everyone recommended... called the cc company, used diffent cards, etc. The account gets disabled. Setup another account. Clicked on "Name of Traveler" when making reservations. No luck. I even tried calling the Alitalia Help Center but had no luck there either. I did find on their website that there is a monthly purchase limit of 516.46 Euro (http://www.trenitalia.com/en/orari_b...ale_spesa.html). So I am considering using RailEurope.com instead. Good luck everyone!

These purchasing problems with Trenitalia are maddening. I was lucky this year (2007), and was able to buy our tickets online.

However, 2008 could be a different story...

My sympathies.
