Actually, the Tren website has been devised by the Office of Tourism to give visitors an introduction to life in Italy.

This way, you won't be upset when things don't go as planned.

I checked with Visa -- the charge for the first set of tickets, which I did buy successfully, went through. Visa has seen no other activity from Trenitalia and has not denied any of my charges. I tried again this morning, while I was on the phone with Visa, and they denied the payment again.

Just a heads up. Keep all confirmation emails and tickets that you get at the trenitalias stations. I happened to have missed the train I reserved online due to a delayed plane and when I tried to change my reservation at the airport to a later train, the trenitalia website kept giving me errors. So when I got to the station and told the agent about the website problems, he looked amazed that the site had problems. anyways, he couldn't change my reserved ticket to a later train and i had to buy a new ticket and fill out a refund form and was told I would get a letter back. Never did. Emailing them actually work but you have to send proof of everything.

I had the same frustration. If your credit card provides it, try using a virtual account number. I did this on Saturday (Citibank M/C) and finally purchased tickets, even though my credit card had been denied every other time (with the real information).

ditto on the 'lack of password' confirmations (not in junk folder). i'll try yahoo account later, but I'm not feeling lucky today.
