Trenitalia question
If my plan is to go from point "A" to point "D" is it acceptable to stop at points "B" and "C" (all in the same direction and the same train line) and continue on to point "D"?.
For how long is a ticket good? I thought I read somewhere 6 hours.

For train tickets (AV, ES, IC+) are purchased with a reserved seat on a specific train, you can travel only on that specific train using that ticket--no getting off.
For train tickets that are not for a specific train (R, used to be true for regular IC but I think not true now) you had 4-6 hours from the time your validated/activated your ticket just before boarding to complete your trip.
The regulations changed recently so I would check the website for details.

Even some R tickets are time specific when you buy them from ticket machines. The train from Termini to the airport gives you a two hour window selection when you purchase.
The faster trains don't stop at B and C which is the reason they are faster. On Trenitalia, select the train, select details by selection, select info. After you select info, scroll down to see the list of stops that train.
