trenitalia -- i give up...

I"m so frustrated.

Even though I called my credit cards ahead of time, the site is not working for me. I even crossed my fingers and held my breath -- to no avail.

So then I was thrilled to get Marco's info from Pantheon Travel. He emailed me back within a few hours asking for the details of the tickets I need. I emailed him back and heard nothing. So 3 days later, I emailed him again... nothing.

We need our train tickets (Rome to Salerno) the day after we arrive in Italy. I was really hoping to get Amica fares, since we have to pay for 4 adult tickets.

any ideas??

am thinking maybe i should book the marozzi bus.
Not sure if a that train route on a Thursday in late june will be sold out when we get there.

thanks,
Dina

I doubt the train will be sold out on a Thursday--unless it's a holiday. You might still get the Amica fare when buying the day before. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Are you by any chance trying to do it in English? If so, you might try it in Italian.

I, too, would think you'd be OK buying your tickets when you get to Italy. But I certainly understand the desire to have everything nailed down before you go.

Good luck!

June 18 is a Wednesday. I had so much trouble with the trenitalia site, that I finally used the American Express travel service office in Venice. it took a few days by email, but they purchased the tickets for me. By the way, the Amica fares I wanted were sold out already, and I was booking for June 18 as well.

Hi D,

The trenitalia website is still offering Amica fares on the IC+ to Salerno for tomorrow.

You can get Amica fares up to the night before your train leaves.

Don't worry about it.

You can buy your tickets at the train station at FCO, or at Rome TE when you get there.

Enjoy your visit.

thanks for the encouragement!

You can't get Amica fares they day before if they are sold out - which will likely happen during the busy tourist season. So, unless you can find a workaround, you may pay full price.

It does seem that at least half the people who try are not able to use Trenitalia successfully, and my theory is that certain credit cards simply cannot interact successfully with it. It's not the skill of the operator that makes the difference.

dina4 - I got the email address from the American Express website. I went to travel, then there's a place on the right lower half to find a travel office. You'll find offices in Rome and other cities as well as Venice. Should have the email address there. The Venice email listed is [email protected].

i'll just cross my fingers that they don't sell out.
