I am trying to get a general idea of the time and cost for a train from FCO to Manarola. I think I've found the time (about 6 - 7 hours with many changes), but I can't find the cost.

When I click "Buy," I get a "Not Saleable" response. Does anyone know about what this trip would cost (one way)?

When are you looking to travel? I have been looking at sample fares for travel next year and while I cannot get as far as price with a date far in the future - I have been able to get an idea of fares by putting in fake dates. I am sure it isn't the exact fare I will face next year, but I get a general sense. Hope that helps!

Thanks for your response. My dates are also too far in the future (September 24), so I also used fake dates and then it came up "not saleable." Maybe it was too close. Just looking for a general idea of cost.

Yes, if you try to book too far in advance, you'll get a "not saleable" notice. However, in this case that notice is due, I think, to the fact that the trenitalia.com timetable indicates taking a bus from the airport to the train station and you can't buy the bus ticket on the Trenitalia site.

I entered Roma Ostiense as the departure station and was given several departure times with one connection at La Spezia Centrale with an average travel time of 4 1/2 hours and a cost of around E32.

Entering Roma Termini as the departure station gave me a variety of departure times and a variety of routes. The shortest was again one connection at La Spezia Centrale and the cost again was around E32.

Jumping in on this thread... So, if I want to get off the plane at FCO and get a train to CT, I have to get a taxi/bus to the train station in Fiumicino and take a train to one of the rail stations in Rome (best one??), transfer to one going to La Spezia and then change trains again for Manarola.

The whole trip would cost the 32 Euro for the Rome La Spezia leg, plus the cost from FCO to Rome and from La Spezia to Manarola. Can you buy a ticket for the whole trip or are they different "systems"?

I'm thinking driving might be the better option, except dealing with the car when we arrive!

When I look at the trenitalia site and plug in Fiumicino - Rome, I still get the bus/local train icon, and so I cannot buy the ticket (thanks, Tim for your insite). I would like to (eventually) buy the ticket in advance from the Fiumicino area to rome and then to Manarola.
Does anyone know can I get rid of the bus portion of this trip so I can buy the ticket? What is the name of the rail station in the Fiumicino area (not the airport itself)? I will get a cab to it!

The train station is in the airport; you do not have to take a bus to the train station. At the Fiumicino train station, together with your ticket for the Leonardo Express to the main train station, Roma Termini, you can buy your ticket to La Spezia or even to Manarola (it is all the same system).

Just bear in mind that it's a good 15-20 minute walk from where the express comes into Termini to the head of the tracks where the other trains leave.

"aeroporto fiumicino"
"roma"

I suspect you are entering only "fiumicino", which is a nearby coastal city where the airport happens to be located.

Oops, sorry! <b>Correction, correction!!!</b>

I just went to www.trenitalia.com, and the best way to do it is <b>not</b> to go from Fiumicino to Roma Termini, but to take the local train (on the left-hand track) to Roma Ostiense and transfer there to the train for La Spezia.

In second class, it will cost 36.78 Euro; in first class, 47.68 Euro, but only the InterCity (IC) train from Roma Ostiense to La Spezia has first-class seats. You can reserve a seat on the IC train for a small extra fee.

I love this board! You people know everything. I didn't know the train station was actually IN the airport. So what trenitalia was doing was sending me to the town of Fiumicino on the bus when I am already where I want to be.

I will try my hand at trenitalia (just for practice) again! Thanks to everyone for the guidance.
