Travelling around Provence/Cote D'Azur

What is the best way to get around Provence and Cote D'Azur area? Should we rent a car to go from town to town or is it easier to take the train? Thanks!

You must rent a small car to get to some of the beautiful villages.

Definitely rent a car. Travel to the small villages and through the Beaux de Provence. You would miss this all by train. The area inland just behind the coast is also very pretty and worth visiting.

Without a car you will be limited in what you can see and enjoy and you will eat up a good bit of your vacation time dealing with transportation logistics. People have certainly visited Provence and the Côte d'Azur without a car, but if you have the option of driving you will see far more.

And also not be dependent on train and bus schedules.
