Traveling to Europe mid November - suggestions

We love the idea of the overnight train. The kids would enjoy it and it would save us on travel big time. I looked at the link for trenitalia and I could get a Coucherette for the 4 of us for $55 Euros each. I think it is a really good deal. I have never traveled on an overnight train, do you think the Couchette room is OK or should I look into the Cabine-lit?
They only have cabines for 2 or 3 people, so I would need 2X2. Is it worth the extra money?. How is this train company compare to the French SNCF which cost a lot more?
Also, I read about Venice's high waters in November, is that a real issue? I was thinking we could also do Rome and Amalfi Coast. Thoughts?

Yes the tides in Venice in November are a real issue but you can perhaps handle that by not being there around a full moon. Other factors affect the aqua alta, yes, but checking the tide tables will give you some idea of times to avoid. Take boots.

The couchette will be great if you book the entire 4 places but if it has 6 berths and two strangers that could be nice too or maybe not if say one is a loud snorer and makes noise, etc.
If it is a 4-person couchette you can book up whole go for it - there is not that much difference for the huge price difference and you'd have to have two cabins - make it a family affair in one.

I've been in Paris and Ireland over our Thanksgiving. The weather in both countries was cool. In Ireland we had a bright sunny day or two then rain, but we came prepared with wet weather gear. No rain in Paris. And it's a great time to be in Europe, with more museum exhibits than in summer and many fewer tourists. I was actually able to see the Mona Lisa with no one standing in front of me--same with the Book of Kells. It makes you feel like a local so I wouldn't worry about the weather.
