Take the train to Flroence: from the termini, the main train station in Rome. Once in Florence take the bus to San Gim. Sorry, I haven't been to Rapallo.

I agree that the train from Rome Termini to Florence is probably the best way to go; however, be very wary of pick-pockets. I just returned from a trip in Italy and was pick-pocketed ON the Eurostar Italia while stowing my luggage. Also, save some money and go 2nd class. Except for the wider seats, 1st and 2nd class are practically identical.

Take the train from Rome to Florence. It only takes 1 hr 35 minutes on the Eurostar. 1st class = 43 euros and 2nd class = 30 euros. And a couple more euros for your seat reservation (a must have if going on the ES). There's not a significant different between 1st/2nd on the ES; for a short trip like this, it's not worth the extra $$$.

You can check train schedules online either thru www.fs-on-line.com or www.trenitalia.com OR www.trenitalia.it
