Traveling in Italy
I was curious what is the best way to travel from Rome to Florence - bus or train? I would like something direct and how long do you believe it would take. Anyway of finding prices and schedules on line?

Also, having difficulty finding out how to go from Rome to San Gimignano and Florence to Rapallo -- any ideas??

Thank you so much.

I agree that the train from Rome Termini to Florence is probably the best way to go; however, be very wary of pick-pockets. I just returned from a trip in Italy and was pick-pocketed ON the Eurostar Italia while stowing my luggage. Also, save some money and go 2nd class. Except for the wider seats, 1st and 2nd class are practically identical.

Take the train from Rome to Florence. It only takes 1 hr 35 minutes on the Eurostar. 1st class = 43 euros and 2nd class = 30 euros. And a couple more euros for your seat reservation (a must have if going on the ES). There's not a significant different between 1st/2nd on the ES; for a short trip like this, it's not worth the extra $$$.

You can check train schedules online either thru www.fs-on-line.com or www.trenitalia.com OR www.trenitalia.it
