Message: Hi,
I plan to purchase a 7 Day Visitor Travelcard for Zones 1-2 for 20.40GBP. Are there any time restrictions when I go to use this card? Thank you.

Actually, daisy - you posted it twice to "Europe". There is no separate UK forum, so both of your threads are on the general "Europe" board.

(Clicking on a country merely allows others to search for threads about that country)

It was just that someone posted the same query on the Usenet newsgroup rec.travel.europe last night as well. But there's nothing to worry about - the website says 'Unlimited travel'. You get what we would get, but with some vouchers and (I think) a slight reduction for buying in advance.

If in US you can buy the 7-day Travelcard for $36 and this card can definitely can be used anytime. This is currently cheaper than the same card in London by about $3-4 but RailEurope charges a $15 mail fee - BETS (800-441-9413), one of their agents, does not, however so if you want to have your card and if two folks save a few bucks by in the US if you live there.

We are staying within zones 1 and 2 for the week except for day trips to Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Palace. Would we be better off purchasing the Travelcard for Zones 1-6 taking into accouint the 2 day trips? Thank you.

No. You would be better off buying 7-day passes for Zones 1-2 and Zones 2-6 supplements (£2.10) for the day trips. I don't think there's a 3-6 supplement.

Windsor is well outside the 6 zones. You will have to buy a train ticket to get there.

My goodness, is rec.travel.europe still getting traffic. I remember back when I used to surf newsgroups a lot and spent quite some time on rec.travel and I remember the BIG VOTE on whether it should be split into regional (continental) newsgroups. The voters said yes and rec.travel.europe and the rest came into being. I recall later that some of them were further split but I think those weren't so popular. Nothing to add here but what a blast from the past!

PS Daily travelcards are sold at two prices. One that allows travel before 9.30 (more expensive) and one that doesn't. Weekly/ monthly and annual travelcards don't limit time of travel and have only one price (according to zones covered).
