Travel through Burgandy

Hello, my mother and I are taking 9 days... two nights in switzerland and then driving through the region of Burgandy.. up to Paris... and back to Alsace where I am currently living. We are renting a car and driving so I am wondering if anyone has any advice on places to see in this region. We are looking to stay two nights in the burgandy region and want to visit a winery or two... any advice.
We would prefer not to stay in the big cities but in a nice, charming place. We are then driving to Paris and planning to stay outside of Paris and getting a train into the city any recommandation on areas to stay... really appreciate any help.

We have stayed in Beaune twice and its a lovely place to stay. Lots of good restaurants and places to drink the wine, right in the heart of the vineyards, and a great marches de vins where you can do tastings. (note its spelled BurgUndy if you are trying to google or search it here).

We've stayed twice here; charming, beautifully decorated, great breakfasts and a premier wine village near Beaune. Most important, fun-loving and guest-focused hosts. Oh, and secure free parking.

Kellie and debbie:

Like Jamikins, we have thoroughly enjoyed our stays in Beaune...not too big, not too small...hometown feeling. Last October we stayed at The Athanor Hotel...small property in town center, short two block walk to free parking in the town lot. With a car, you'll be free to visit anyplace within the vineyard vicinity. We especially loved the little towns all over and the wine tasting..but our favorite place was right in town..The Patriarche Family institution...a superb large winery for a tasting experience surrounded by 3 mllion bottles, no less....we left a few for you! You can walk to it from anywhere in town. The Hospice, Beaune's leading site, is just off the town square.

The aformentioned lodgings are less than €100. Dining opportunities are ubiquitous...one of our favorites was La Grillande...there are many choices for breakfast if you don't want to pay the steep hotel bkfst. price.

Here's a preview for you...my pix from last Otober '09.

If coming from Basel, I would stick to northern Burgundy (Auxerre) or southern Champagne (Troyes). Coming from Geneva, Beaune makes sense.

Hi; If you chose to stay near Auxerre, we stayed in this chateau that was about 2 1/2 hours from Paris. Just a few miles from Auxerre. Lovely b&b. Richard www.chateauderibourdin.com

Hi K&D

We very much liked staying in Beaune at http://www.hotel-grillon.fr/

Also, http://myhomeindijon.com/ is a very nice apartment that has received very good reviews here.

Enjoy your visit.
