Train for one, and maybe for two

Car for three or more, and maybe for two

Unfortunately, I haven't been in Berlin in ten years; two years ago, I tried to locate the place I stayed (on two consecutive trips), and I think it had gone out of business or changed names.

Best wishes,

Rex
Certainly. In Berlin, is that a hotel at 50 US dollars a night, or a hostel with shared rooms, cheaper ?

On the German Rail site http://www.bahn.de/pv/uebersicht/die...l_guests.shtml there is information on several national tickets such as Schönes-Wochende-Ticket (Happy Weekend Ticket), Guten-Abend-Ticket (Good Evening Ticket), Twen Ticket, Preis(Saver Ticket) and Super-Sparpreis (Super saver Ticket) in Germany, and about the BahnCard. Some detail is this

Happy Weekend Ticket. 28 reuros. For up to 5 persons traveling together and for parents or grandparents traveling with children aged 14 and under on Saturdays or Sundays between 12 a.m. and 3 a.m. of the following day. Valid only on local trains, 2nd class.

Good Evening Ticket. 30 euros. Valid between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. on all trains except night trains, trains that carry cars and special trains. On Saturdays, it is valid after 2 p.m. It may be bought in Germany only. For travel on Fridays to Sundays there is a supplement of 8 euros 10 cents. Second class without InterCity Express (ICE) 30 euros, with ICE 36 euros. You do not need ICE.

On their site http://www.bahn.de/pv/int_guest/true...national.shtml are details of the Saver tickets for Europe. 138 euros. These are return tickets, but cover the journey from any place in Germany to any place in the Netherlands, and back. You may break your journey, so you might want to buy this ticket for Berlin, Hanover, the Hague. If you can re-plan the trip, then you could buy Berlin, Hanover, Essen, the Hague. If you actually use the return half then your stay in the Hague must include a Friday night, or one of the travelling days must be a Saturday or Sunday.
The German text on http://www.bahn.de/pv/angebote/inter...parpreis.shtml says the ticket is valid a month, and goes on: You can break your journey as often as you choose, so long as you use routes that direct trains use, or routes that the timetable shows as allowable. In German: Fahrtunterbrechung beliebig oft innerhalb der Geltungsdauer möglich, wenn verkehrsübliche oder durch Fahrplan bedingte Wege in Richtung auf das Reiseziel benutzt werden.

Please write if I can help further

Ben Haines, London
I am a college student studying in Northern Germany(Magdeburg) right now. I have traveled a lot in the past few months and found the best place to stay is in youth hostels. Go to www.djh.de for the website of every hostel in Germany. There is also another type of Youth Hostel(Hosteling International), their website is www.iyhf.org. Hopefully this will help. Also check out the German Railway System website, www.bahn.de. Here you can find trains to any city in Germany, prices and how long it will take. Good luck and have fun traveling!!
