Travel in Greece in light of the fires
We have a Mediterranean cruise planned which begins in Venice and continues to Mykonos, Athens, Katakolon,Corfu, (all Greece) and Split (Croatia). A friend mentioned that he thought we should cancel the cruise because of the fires. Does anyone know what affect the fires might have to our travel in these areas?

Thanks for your replies.
I don't want to post a specific date for our cruise - but it is soon.
The stop in Katakolon has an excursion to Olympia and I know the fires have come close to that.
I don't understand Greek geography very well so when they mention certain places, I'm not sure if they are nearby or not. A friend sent me a link to a map of Greece showing areas affected by the fires and it looked like much of the country. However maybe the map was showing any sort of fire and not just major ones.

If it was me, I would go. It does not sound like your trip will be that affected; and if it was, I think the cruise company would make adjustments. Many people in Greece are facing financial devistation due to the fires. The continued flow of tourist money could not hurt at this time.

Definitely you shouldn't cancel your trip!!
Fires haven't affected Corfu, Mykonos and Athens (well..mykonos and nowadays Athens don't have trees any more to be burnt..)
In Olympia there isn't a fire anymore but there you'll see the burnt trees. (a very unpleasant view really) but i think it's a pity to cancel your trip just for Olympia. If you don't feel like it then stay at the ship and don't visit that area!

We were recently in Greece for over a month, but have been in Croatia now for 25 days, so we missed the fires completely.
Olympia was wonderful, so I am very sad to hear about the fires. Most of the areas that you are stopping at in Greece, were not affected by any fire.
