Yes, I'm wondering about the weekend of October 8 - if it is a big travel weekend all over Croatia (like the US 4th of July). I noticed one place we are looking at in the islands has a greatly increased price for that weekend. But I haven't noticed it elsewhere.

I posted the same question last year, because I was going to be in Dubrovnik on Independence Day and had similar worries. Some people claimed that a lot of stores would be closed, but truly, not many were. I saw a few flags but not a lot of other signs that this was an important holiday to Croatians (at least in Dubrovnik, which more tourist-heavy than Split is). Mostly it was business as usual. I'm almost certain you'd have no trouble traveling around.
