Travel from Santorini to Crete
This is a wild stab in the dark really, but I'm after any ideas on how to get from Santorini to Crete when there's no ferry!
It's my honeymoon, we'd booked flights to Athens then Santorini, then been going by boat to Crete and flying back home via Athens again. Now the travel agent has told us the ferry service has ended for the winter a month earlier than normal, costing us 360 Euros we hadn't budgeted for and meaning for a 2-week honeymoon we've got 6 flights and lots of hanging around in airports. Does anyone know of a way we can hire a boat to take us from Santorini to Crete, or is that impossible?
Any help much appreciated!

There's now a small inter-island airline flying between Santorini and Crete, Sky Express. Here's their website:

Take note that their schedule is limited, so plan accordingly. I hope this helps. You might have to make your way to Mykonos via Paros by ferry to catch a flight depending on your desired day of travel. (Including travel dates in a posting like this is always a good idea.)
Happy Honeymoon!

We have the same problem. Need to get a ferry from Santorini to Crete on 6 Oct and no schedules are published as yet. We have meen told by Minoan Lines that an Oct schedule will be available on 25 Sept. If we are lucky, the car ferry will run between the 2 ports in the afternoon but, there is no guarantee. We have found the same option (that are closing quickly), fly back to Athens then fly to Crete. Both time consuming and costly.
Hope someone can offer both of us a great altenative.
Good Luck!

Hubby and I are in the same boat. We need to travel from Crete to Santorini on October 6th. So far, I don't have that figured out. I'm hoping that we'll be able to catch a ferry. We'll fly if we need to though. If any of you hear anything, please do post. You are not alone!

You should be looking at Lane line ferries and Minoan lines. Lane lines run a year round ferry service 2 or 3 times a week from Santorini to Crete (Ag Nikolaos and Sitia). Minoan 'may' run a service 1-2/week to Iraklion.
You must check with more than one ferry agent in Santorini to get a picture of services, I'm only writing this out of previous experience, as I know that one ferry agent rarely acts for all ferry lines, also routes/ports of call may change and timings.

If you are not flexible you will have to ferry/fly via Athens.
