Travel from Gatwick Airport

I'm arriving at Gatwick on a Saturday morning and will be staying in Knightsbridge - The Sheraton. Can you suggest whether it's cheaper to take the Gatwick Express or a taxi. There are 2 travellers. Thanks

It will be MUCH cheaper, and much, MUCH faster to take the train and then the tube or a taxi from Victoria Station. LGW is more than 30 miles south of London - a taxi isn't really a reasonable option.

and it'll be even cheaper to take the southern train rather than the gatwick express and it takes about the same amount of time (30-40min).

For others who may have this question -- there is really no reason to pre-book the Gatwick Express. You can even buy your tickets after you board the train.

And - for those on a budget, the Southern Train CanadianRNinDublin mentioned is quite a bit cheaper. Though you cannot buy those tickets on the train - there is a ticket office in the station at LGW.

Even better, there's a place to buy train tickets just after you clear passport control while you're waiting to see which luggage carousel your flight is assigned. I thought at first they only sold Gatwick Express tickets, but no - I bought a Gatwick to St. Pancras ticket with no problems.

there are often long lines at the Gatwick train station ticket window IME - but lots of machines that are easy to use with your credit card

On a weekend Southern trains probably not too crowded but on weekdays at rush hours they well could be as they come from south of Gatwick and stop at Gatwick and could be crowded when they reach the airport

Gatwick Express is a dedicated airport service that will be likely standing at the airport on platform 1, i think, so you can board leisurely and it has special facilities for luggage

Southern trains do not but are commuter trains - so could be a much worse experience at times. But cheaper.
