My husband and I are taking a Danube Cruise and (on another thread) have decided to go to Prague first for a couple of days. A previously unknown cousin has contacted us from Rastenberg, Germany through Ancestry.com and would like to meet us somewhere on the day we travel between Prague and Vilshofen to start the cruise.

I am having a terrible time figuring out the best place to meet that is not too complicated or far for both of us to travel - while still allowing for at least a 2 hour lunch. We can take the bus transfer from Prague - stopping in Regensberg - to Vilshofen, but our cousin doesn't want to travel that far because they have a newborn. Renting a car is prohibitively expensive due to the one-way charges so we are left with train or bus....

Some suggestions he has given for meeting cities are Weimar or Bamberg -

Does anyone know the geography and the train system between Czech Republic and Germany well enough to help??

What about
Zwickau (4 hrs by train from Prague, 5 hrs by train from Vilshofen),
Reichenbach,
Plauen
or Hof?
Marktredwitz would be 3 1/2 hrs from Prague and 3 1/2 hrs from Vilshofen, but it's farther away from Rastenberg

Thank you for your help! None of the long trips seemed to work so.... our newly found cousin is going to come to Prague for one night while we are there!

Next time we will fly to Berlin and make a special trip to Rastenberg
