travel advice
Hi there
Travel duration - Jan 23 to Feb 8,2004.
Departure from Singapore & arrive in the
morning either in Stockholm or Copenhagen.
Our main destination is 8 days in Finland lapland (Rovaniemi). We will stay 1 to 3 days (how many days of staying depends on the train & ferry schaedule) in Stockholm (Sweden), Voss,Myrdal & Flam (Norway) & Copenhagen (Denmark).
My question is can the itinerary be arranged
in this way. If no, please suggest.
- Arrive from Singapore to Stockholem in the morning
- From Stockholem to Helsinkivn by either Siljia line or Viking line
- From Helsinkivn to Rovaniemi
- From Rovaniemi to Norway (what transport ?)
- From Norway to Denmark (What transport ?)
- From Denmark to Sweden
- Back to Singapore
Regards
Ms Lee

Hi st,
You certainly have an unusual journey.
If you go to http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/
you will see that you can go from Helsinki to Rovaniemi by train. To get from Rovaniemi to Norway, you might have to go by way of Stockholm.
May I suggest that you might have a better route if you go Stockholm/Oslo/Copenhagen/Helsinki/Rovaniemi/Stockholm?
It will be interesting to see if someone more knowledgeable about Sacandinavia can help.

First let me say I agree about needing a better title. I saw this post earlier and wanted to back and answer, but couldn't find it. I was looking for something in the title about the destination, and hit this post quite by accident.
Anyway, we did much of what you are talking about, but had a whole lot more time.
We started in Stockholm, took the Silja line to Turku and then the train to Helsinki for a few days. From there we took the train north, stopping in Tampere for a night and then on to Roveniemi. But we got a car in Roveniemi and explored for about five days or so. We turned the car in at Ivalo where we also stayed a couple of nights. We took a bus from there to Karasjok in Norway which we enjoyed --Lapland country. Next day we took another bus to Kirkenes where we took the Hurtigruten mail boat for several days around to Bodo. We flew to Trondheim and again got a car for exploring the fjord areas of Norway. Took train from Bergen to Oslo. Also a train from Oslo to Copenhagen.
But all this took us about 5 weeks.
To follow your itinerary, yes I think it is possible. I would look into flying from Rovaniemi to maybe Bergen if that is possible. I strongly suggest a car for Voss, Myrdal, and Flam area -- I think it is the best way to explore the are. But I would probably pursue a train from Bergen to Oslo and from Oslo to Copenhagen.
However, my best suggestion (and I don't know if this is possible) would be to try to fly in to Helsinki first, do the Finland portion, take the ferry to Stockholm, then go to Norway (fly Stockholm to Bergen or take a train). Then a train to Oslo and fly home from there. I'd drop Denmark from your itinerary. You have more than enough to do for your two weeks.

The itinerary can be arranged this way, but I think Ira suggestion is better.
From Rovaniemi theres a bus taking you to Tromso from where you either go by air (Norwegian AirShuttle do affordable One-way flights) or take Hurtigruten Coastal Steamer to Bergen, or a combination of both.
From Norway to Denmark you have the option of Ferry, Train or Air. I personally take the Ferry, while Air is faster (Sterlingticket do one-way flights from Oslo)
