Trastevere or Campo Fiori B&Bs

I thought I posted this message, but I can't find it on the message board. I will be in Rome in September with a girlfriend, leaving the husband and kids at home. I am considering staying at Antiqua Roma B&B in Trastevere or Campo de Fiori B&B. Are both areas good for night-time walks? Anyone know of these or have recommendations on the areas. Once I start looking at the websites I find too many places that look good to me. Thanks for your help.

I stayed in the Campo at the Smeraldo hotel. I loved the area! Seemed to be more locals hanging out that some of the other old town areas. Hotel was ok for the price. It's a longer walk to most popular areas from the Trastevere. Stayed near the Pantheon and loved that area too but seemed to be mostly tourists. Felt very safe in all of these areas. Have fun!

Hi Debbie,
I live and work in Rome as a tour guide and my office is right by Campo di Fiori. this is a fantastic area with a wonderful market during the day that sells fruit, vegetables, fish, spices and bits and pieces and creates a great atmosphere. At night the piazza is filled with locals and tourists alike. Here you will find excellent wine bars, restaurants and pubs as well as the fantastic gelato from Blue Ice a must try!!!
You are 5 min walk to the bus stop for the Vatican and in the other direction to the Colosseum and ancient city. If you really like walking it is possible to walk from there. you can get to the Pantheon and Trevi in about 15/20 mins.
I don't personally know the B&B you mention but certainly as your other post says the Hotel Smeraldo is a good basic and clean 2 star hotel in this fabulous location.
Trastevere is definatley worth a walk across the river to experience the restaurants and atmosphere. Go across the main bridge (Garibaldi) at night and see the dome of St Peters lit up in the Tiber River - wonderful!
I hope this helps you out a little but if you need any other help please feel free to email me direct at
[email protected] as I do not always get time (or remember) to get on the board.
Regards
Marianna

Thanks for the great advice. I have already made reservations for the Campo de Fiori. It is basically the top floor apartment (4th floor) at Campo Fiori. The other one in Trastevere looked good to me because it had a private living room and the bedroom. It is located near the Bridge you mentioned. I know I will be happy just to be there.

Ellen,
I think they are both around $100-$110 per night. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
Debbie
