Trapani (Erice)
Our cruise ship stops in Trapani in July. We've already decided on our ship's excursion-- visit to Erice (photos and info look wonderful). I'm trying to decide whether to sign up for the cable car excursion up to the town or just do the bus. I have a fear of funiculars, but have managed them in the past. Just wondering whether the views that way will be much more spectacular than the bus ride up to the town. Both excursions are complimentary, so cost not a consideration. Thanks!

Both ways have good views, and are lots of fun. Personally, I like the bus. I like that type of bus trip - Monte Cassino, Amalfi drive, Enna, Mt Vesuvio. If you enjoy that type of bus trip, (climbing, switchbacks etc) then the bus is a the best choice. You can go to youtube and see videos of both. Key in Erice Sicilia - bus, or drive, or funivia.

Thank you! My very first time on youtube (I'm a bit of a troglodyte). Was interesting to see. Is there a way to find out safety record of the funivia, I wonder? Those things really do scare me (it looks like a pretty high one). I've never been real happy on the Amalfi Drive either, of course. Must be great fun for the non fearful folks.

I don't know about the safety record, but a funivia is usually very safe. I found a website for the funivia of Erice in my files.

Lots of info and photos there. Hope it helps, and that you have a wonderful time on you stop in Bella Sicilia.
