Our spring trip is beginning to take shape, and now I am wondering about the best ways to get from city to city.

Planes, trains or automobiles??

We'll be visiting:
Barcelona: 2 nights
Madrid/Segovia: 3-4 nights
Seville: 3-4 nights
Granada: 1-2 nights

Also, as you can see, we need to firm up our time spent in each city. Any suggestions? Should we see Segovia from Madrid, or stay in Segovia as well?

Finally, should we fly round-trip to Barcelona, or return from Malaga or Madrid?

Thre are many good answers to your question. Here's my thought: Fly in and out of Barcelona. Fly to Madrid from Barcelona. Visit Segovia as a day trip from Madrid. Take the AVE train to Seville. When ready to leave SEvilla, rent a car and drive to Granada via Ronda. Fly Granada-Barcelona to catch the plane home. Flights within Spain generally run about 35E.

The best (and incidentally most inexpensive) way is by car. We did it 2 autumns ago and it was fabulous. Least enjoyable was a flight from Seville to Madrid which we had to do after our 8-day North-South route because of lack of time.

We are planning a trip to Spain in October and are thinking about driving. We have been to Spain several times before, but have never rented a car there. Any suggestions and/or recommendations?

We didn't go the Northeast Spain - so can't vouch for Barcelone - but the rest was pretty easy. The road rules are very American, the street names are easy to understand, and my suggestion would be to memorize the SPanis equivalent of North, South, East, West - and the rest should be smooth. I rented from Avis - picked the car at Madrid and dropped off at Seville (one-way for around $250 for a sort of mini-van).
