Transportation to San Marco Airport

Hello All,
My 18 year old will be flying home from Venice San Marco airport. She has an 8:00 a.m. flight. During her stay in Venice she will be staying on Via Del Paradiso. As best I can estimate this is about 1/2 km from the Rialto Bridge. Can anyone tell me how she should get to the airport? I tried using viamichelin.com and it wasn't helpful.

She should take a vaporetto (water bus) to the Piazzale Roma (near the train station) and then catch a bus to Marco Polo Airport. Here's info about the buses: http://www.cheapvenice.com/buses-mar...ort-venice.htm

There is an inexpensive bus line that runs to the airport though the schedule is limited. Check with APt Venezia to find out the schedule.

Hi Marie,

Ask the hotel for how to get to the airport by about 06:15.

There are night schedules on the vaporettos and buses to Marco Polo (VCE).

>...she will be staying on Via Del Paradiso.<

How romantic can you get?

Well Ira, the location will doubtless be romantic, but she and her sister are staying in a place (located on Hostelworld website) called Venexia; its a guesthouse. It carries high ratings for location, but low ratings for staff. So I am somewhat hesitant to rely on them for the best information. One thing I found while following up on some of the suggestions above is a public airport transport boat service called Alilaguna. Has anyone had any experience with Alilaguna and if so, where does one buy tickets? I haven't yet been able to determine that from the site. It appears she could be picked up at Fondamente Nove (about 1/3 mile from the Venexia) at 4:41 a.m. and be at the airport at 5:19 a.m. At this time of day they run hourly so the next boat would have her there at 6:19 a.m. She's flying American and I have no idea how much time it might take to locate the American check in counter, although I'm sure she would prefer to take the later boat.

Hi Marie - You can find bus timetables from Piazzale Roma on:

Hope this helps ...

Hi Marie, the San Marco airport is not that big so your daughters will not have a problem finding the American Airline checkin counter. Here is the website for the airport.

Have your daughters take the Alilaguna from Fondamenta Nuove-if that's closer, and it sounds as if it is, since they are staying between FN and Rialto. It's very easy-you just look at the Alilaguna schedules, here:

www.alilaguna.com

Decide what time you want, and buy your ticket for the day and time you want to leave. Your daughters can buy whenever at FN vaporetto stop. After arriving at the airport dock on the Alilaguna, it's about a 7 minute walk to the airport, and you're there.

Sorry, but convenient as the Alilaguna might be, I strongly advise against shlepping the luggage from Calle (not Via) del Paradiso to Fondamenta Nove, that's NOT fun. Calle del Paradiso is conveniently located to the Rialto vaporetto stop (it's between Salizada S. Lio and Campo S. Maria Formosa), so I'd stick to the "N" (night) vaporetto plus ACTV or ATVO bus.

I'm almost positive there is no American Airlines check in desk at Marco Polo. She is most likely on some codeshare or alliance partner line and would need to check in there.

Franco,
I don't have my Venice map handy. I did try to determine the distance from Calle (you're right; we're in Venice after all) Del Paradiso to Fondamente Nove using viamichelin.com. It appears to be .7km which I think is a little less than half mile. I'd like to save her the schlepping, but particularly given the very early time of the day, I'd feel better with the simplest route possible. Using Alilaguna just requires her to get on the boat at Fondamente Nove and get off at the airport stop. Marsha

Marie, sorry, I can't give you a distance in kilometres, but I can tell you that your, or Michelin's, estimates are disproportionate. 0.5 km to Rialto, 0.7 to Fondamenta Nove, this would actually be a no-brainer, and I'd second the recommendation to walk to Fondamenta Nove. Unfortunately, this is far from reality. It is MUCH nearer to Rialto (don't think this is half a kilometer). Again, I have no talent at all to estimate kilometres, but I know every corner along both ways, and I swear you nothing on earth could convince me to carry my luggage from Calle del Paradiso to Fondamenta Nove. To Rialto, it's a more than easy walk (the walk to Rialto from the accomodation where I usually stay is a little farther than from Calle del Paradiso, where I'm actually passing by, and I often walk to Rialto, it's really convenient). If you can check a map, the distance to Rialto is more or less like the one to Campo S. Marina (maybe slightly more)... and now look: S. Marina - S. Maria Nova - Campiello Widmann - and still a LONG walk to F.ta Nove!

Thank you Franco. I will try to locate our Falk map of Venice and see what I can figure out. If it were not for the early morning time, I would be less concerned about her route to the airport. I do not want it to be any longer or more complicated than necessary.
