Venice Airport Best Way to Get There From San Marco Area
I have a 6:55 am flight out of Venices airport. I sure could use your help on finding the best way to get to the airport

I know the possibilities include water taxi, vaporettos, etc. I will have to be at the airport really early so time will probably be the key factor. The water taxi will probably be the quickest, but I am looking to compare times and costs, etc.

· Do any of these methods go direct to the airport or do they all have some sort of interim stop where you have to switch to a different type of transportation?
· How long would it take to use each method?
· How much would each method cost?
· Does each method run that early in the morning?

· Here in the states, the airports recommend that you arrive two hours early for international flights. Do I need to get there that early in Venice?

I really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences.

Thanks, Fodorites.

Adria
Your best public transporation option is to take the Alilaguna boat from San Marco to the airport, leaving at 4:50 a.m. and arriving at 6:00 a.m. Fare is about 10 Euros per person. A less expensive but less desirable alternative is to take the ATVO bus from Piazzale Rome to the airport, but you must first take a traghetto from San Marco to reach Piazzale Roma. Combined cost (two tickets) is about 6 Euros. Check with your airline whether 55 minutes is enough time to check in. A water taxi will be quite expensive.

The other alternative I mentioned really sucks: Traghetto Notturno (Night boat) leaving S. Zaccaria (very close to the Palazzo Ducale) at 4:10 a.m., arriving at Piazzale Roma at 4:49, connecting to ATVO airporter bus leaving at 5:00 a.m., arriving airport at 5:20 a.m. If you miss this connection, the next ATVO bus leaves Piazzale Roma ACTV city bus no. 5 to the airport from Piazzale Roma (30 mins. travel time).

Traghetto costs 3.10 Euro, plus 2.70 Euro for the ATVO bus.

Alilaguna boat from San Marco for 10 Euros is preferable, as it does not involve a connection, but gives you less than 55 minutes check in time (you still have to get from the boat dock to the airport terminal itself by shuttle bus).

A water taxi at that time of the morning should run about 85-90 Euros;
a land taxi from Piazzale Roma about 25 Euros.

Another alternative would be to spend the last night in a hotel within easy walking distance of Piazzale Roma, where you could catch the 5:00 a.m. ATVO bus direct to the airport.

CORRECTION: The Alilaguna boat from San Marco pier to the Venice airport leaves at 4:35 a.m. (NOT 4:50 a.m., as I stated previously), and arrives at the airport at 5:45 a.m. (NOT 6:00 a.m.)

www.alilaguna.it
