After a 10 hour flight for me it is money well spent to have SuperShuttle holding a sign up with your name as you exit and driving you to your hotel! Last week it was 2 hours from walking off Delta flight to being dropped off at hotel in 7th. With only a day and a half your time might be best choosing exactly what to see and using taxi. Hop on hop off busses seem to sit in traffic a lot!

I highly recommend this:

http://www.batobus.com

It's hop on/hop off but on the river, there's a stop at the Eiffel Tower. The website gives all the details, ticket is good for the entire day, the stops are at many of the places you would want to see with only a day in Paris.

There is limited commentary, it's a cross between a water bus and a river tour.

Taxi and super shuttle will be so close to the same price it isn't worth talking about. Shuttles sometimes don't show up.

@barbrn you're at the bus stops alright!

that ratp.fr site someone linked to above is excellent. you can buy tickets right across from your hotel, at the metro station.

as to logistics: if your time is as short as it appears to be, don't go to the hotel to drop your bags there, if you think they'll fit the louvre lockers. metro to the louvre from motte picquet is a right pain, and you'll lose a lot of time that way.

along Grenelle there are lots of restaurants, and generally the 15th is solidly middle class residential: lots of Ecole Militaire personnel live there. There is a poilane depot de vente on Grenelle too, if you want their excellent bread.

If you need to buy general stuff for your cruise: there's a huge monoprix at the corner of grenelle and rue du commerce. and there are a number of really authentic "tabacs" along rue du commerce for coffee or a glass of wine.

If you two have the courage to travel with baggage, Then use public transportation Metros, buses.
Otherwise, use a budget taxi service like http://www.piyocab.com/ and it will more comfortable than the previous option. BTW it depends on your budget.

EasyBus hasn't yet gotten rid of the start-up glitches - I wouldn't recommend it until it does.

Shuttles - some are more reliable than others, but do you really want to hang around if something goes wrong - and, do you really want to wait while other passengers and their luggage are off-loaded before you can get to your hotel?

A taxi will cost a flat 55 EU for the two of you, if your hotel is in the 15eme arrondissement. No charge for luggage in the trunk, and you don't have to tip the driver unless you want to - and he'll be happy with a couple of euros. The trip should take about one hour.

What would you do if all the lockers were full at the Louvre when you arrived with your luggage? Best solution, drop it at the hotel, then head to the museum.

I don't see the point in loading and unloading your luggage, changing from one system to another just to save money when you arrive. It's fine for people who have visited Paris before, and for those who use public transportation on a daily basis - but all of this will take too much time out of the already limited time you have to spend here. You will be more exhausted than you might think, after spending so many hours in airports.

Perhaps you might consider using the other methods mentioned when you return to CDG, but on arrival, I would head for the official TAXI stand at the airport, hand the driver the complete printed address of your hotel, including Postal Code, and just relax and enjoy the ride.

Another vote for bus transport-both the easy bus from CDG and the city bus over the metro. I hate being underground. I have lived in Paris 6 years and when I don't have to rush I always take the bus or walk. The metro is easy and convenient, but generally lots of stairs and you see nothing except sweaty people in the summer. Also, it was by taking the bus that I really understood the neighborhoods, how they are connected, and love to just watch the world go by.
