We're planning a trip to Berlin in the fall. My partner doesn't like to use the subway unless there is a lift. (He can manage a flight of stairs but more than that is challenging and he refuses to use the escalator because of balance problems.)
Can we get around by bus and tram? Are there lifts at the subway stations near the main tourist attractions?
We love to go out to pubs, live music, concerts, performances in the evening. Where should we look for a hotel that will allow us to walk to at least part of these activities? |There are so many neighborhoods. We're not looking for a 5 star hotel but we're also not looking for a hostel or an apartment rental.

There are certainly buses and trams. I can't remember how widespread escalators and lifts are, but here's what the horse's mouth has to say:

The above ground S-Bahn is a great way to get around Berlin as it runs thru the heart of the town center, passing by many famous monuments - and I believe the main S-Bahn stations should have lifts to the platform.

Many buses are double-deckers with limited seating on the lower deck as I recall.

Bus 100 is famous for linking many tourist sites/sights and it may be easy to board.

Trams are only in former East Berlin.

There are two bus lines that are great: nº 100 and nº 200. Some subway stations have elevators but most have scalators as far as I remember.
We were perfectly happy at the NH Berlin Mitte hotel, location is perfect!!!
