transportation from Athens airport

I hope this does not turn out to be a double post, but it's been 1/2 hour and I still can't find the first one.

Anyway, does anyone know if there is another way to get to Plaka Hotel in Athens besides taxi? I have read there is a bus from the airport but I don't know if it goes to Plaka. It's our first time in Athens. If there's only taxi, does anyone know what it should cost.

It's easy. The Plaka Hotel is very close to Syntagma Square, within walking distance, at the intersection of Mitropoleos Street and Kapnikareas Street. You can take either the
Airport Express Bus #95 or the Blue Line Metro from the airport to Syntagma Square. Walk downhill from Syntagma along Mitropoleos for 4 or 5 short blocks until you reach the hotel.

This link will show you the hotel's location in relation to Syntagma. http://www.greekhotel.com/athens/plaka/home.htm

The bus costs 3.2 euro/each. The Metro is 6 euro each or 2 for 10 euro. You can also ride the Metro one stop past Syntagma to Monastiraki and walk back uphill towards Syntagma a couple of blocks to the hotel, it's really a no-brainer. The bus runs all night long every half hour 24/7, but the Metro only runs between 5:30 AM and midnight. The Metro takes about 45 minutes to Monastiraki. If it's not caught in traffic the bus will take about the same amount of time, but if it's during rush hour it will take longer.

click on your name to fnd ALL you posts.

the bus is great. i had an early morning flight and they are VERY reliable. i believe the daily metro ticket is laso good on that bus, and vice versa, for 24hours, or til midnight.

the day passes give you unlimited on all transportation in city and to airport.

Thanks, guys. The bus and the Metro both look like a good deal. We're traveling for 3 months so my bag is heavier (but no larger) than usual (no lectures, please, I know it shouldn't be) so I think I'd rather go downhill from the Syntagma stop getting there and then walk downhill to the Mitropoleos stop leaving!!!

Really, it's a very gentle slope, not a steep hill. You won't be killing yourself if you walk from Monastiraki. I just called it a hill because it's not flat. Either way will be an easy walk.
