Italy Trains, Buses and Metro

Traveling around Italy we are looking at using Public transit. Trains, Buses, Metros and when necessary Cabs. I want to try to minimize cost over a 17-day trip ranging from the Amalfi Coast up to Turin and Venice. We will be all over the country. Is there anything like a SuperSaver Ticket for Tourists?

For one thing, local buses, metros, and certain trains are run by local transit companies. I am not aware of any pass that will let you ride multiple systems.

Second, unlike many European countries, transport in Italy is very cheap. Local buses and metro are usually 1 Euro. And even long distance trains are fairly cheap with no need of getting advanced sale tickets.

Only thing you may consider is daily metro passes at the large cities, which usually cost 4 euro, and good for whole day.

You should go to the Slow Travel website and read their section on Italian train travel. There are many ways to save money and in your case it will be worth it to get all the inside skinny.

I withdraw my advice to check out Slow Travel. I just looked on the site to see if I could find a link for you, and I read that they disapprove of the passes because they are used by "fast" travelers!
