Transportation between Sweden & Oslo

Thinking about splitting 9 days between Stockholm and Norway. Looks like we can fly between Stockholm and Oslo for less than $100 per person, but am wondering if the train would be more enjoyable/less hassle? I think the train was about twice the price. Looks like it takes 5-7 hours and we could do it during the day or overnight. I figure that's only a couple of hours more than the flight when it's all said and done.

Thoughts?

If you fly into Gardermoen airport in Oslo, you will need to take a train into Oslo. If it is still the same, there are different trains. The express train and the local train. The local train was half the cost of the express train and the local train was only a few minutes slower. We elected to take the local and it was good.

We took the train from Stockholm to Oslo and arrived in the evening - we were able to walk to our hotel.

Not to confuse you - we arrived via plane on one trip and via train on a different trip.

The train can be cheaper if you buy the advanced fare online. We rode train Stockholm-Oslo much cheaper than transport to airport + plane, but we purchased in advance. The train is easy to find/ride, stations central to both cities. When we were there last June there was a heat wave and no air conditioning on the train. The ride was miserable in the late afternoon. The scenery is rural farmland, nothing spectacular.

I took the night train from Oslo to Stockholm a few years ago. It is a good train and you save the price of a hotel for the night. Swedish scenery is sort of like western Michigan.

Note the Oslo airport express train is expensive, 160 kroner.
