transport Sunday -Rome to Positano Problems?
my husband & I will be travelling from Rome to Positano on May 27th - a Sunday. flight gets in at Fiumicino 12.15pm and we intend to travel to Positano straight away for 4 nights (coming back to Rome for 3 nights. will we encounter problems with trains, buses or ferries. haven't entirely worked out plan how to get there yet. can't afford a driver & not hiring car. had thought train to Naples, bus to Sorrento and ferry/boat to Positano. will all these transport services be running regularly being a Sunday? can't change our day either. thanks in anticipation Kerry

Hi K,
If you go via Naples, I suggest taking the SITA bus, stop is across the street from the Sorrento train station.
Another route is to train to Salerno and take the ferry from there.
This is a much nicer and more scenic route.
For Ferry schedules Positano – Amalfi - Salerno (P.zza della Concordia):

Take the train to Naples, right in the train station you can get the Circumsuviano (sp?) its a little train that just goes back and forth between Naples and Sorrento... easy as pie... except for if you have a lot of luggage, then if might be a little hard to navigate... I think trains run every 20-30 minutes all day and until about 10 pm if I recall.

Hi Kerry,
You could take a train from Rome (From the airport) to Naples. From Naples you could change into the local trains there and take one to Sorrento. From there you could take a SITA bus that will take you directly to Positano.. And Positano is divine.. You would love it.

Hi 64,
>do we train straight to Salerno from Rome? also do we catch the train from the airport in Rome?<
You have to take the Leonardo da Vinci Express from FCO to Rome TE. Trains leave on the :05 and the :35 and take 0:30 hr - 11E pp.
You then take the train from Rome TE to Salerno.
You can buy your tickets to Salerno at the FCO station at the same time you buy your tickets to Rome - if the agent is not too busy and in a good mood.
Train schedules, prices, etc are at www.trenitalia.com.
The ferry docks in Salerno (P.zza della Concordia) are about 3 blks from the train station.

Enjoy your visit.
