transfer from Naples airport to Praiano
#4
Naples has set taxi fees to many cities along the coast, but there would be surcharges for nights and luggage. I don't see Praiano listed, but the price would probably be similar to the Positano price. It might be a bit cheaper to book a car service. The set taxi fees for Naples in English is page 2. Since the date at the bottom is 2007, you will need to check if there have been increases and in case the airport hasn't updated their website.

Here's how to do it for 13 Euros per person:

Naples Airport to Sorrento is 10 Euros
Sorrento to Praiano is 3 Euros
The connection in Sorrento is very easy.

There are CURRERI airporter buses to Sorrento departing Naples Airport at 12 noon and at 13:00 (and later). Travel time is 75 minutes.
There are SITA buses from Sorrento to Praiano at 13:30, 14:15 and 14:45 (continuing until midnight). Travel time is another 75 minutes.

Thanks very much to Dayle, ira, GAC and kybourbon for your help. As we only have 4 days in Praiano, I think the best way for us at that time of night is to hire a car as it will be cheaper than taxis or a night in a Naples hotel, when i bear in mind we have to check in at 6 am the following week for our flight home. There is car parking space at our hotel. i don't think that we will use a car much while we are there, but there you go!
thanks again

Here's how I see the situation:
1. I would definitely not even try to rent a car at midnight at the Naples Airport. First of all, I doubt the car rental agency is open at that hour, nor would allow you to remove a car so late at night.
2. Driving from the Naples Airport to Praiano in the dead of night can be dangerous, unless you know the roads very, very well. It's easy to get lost, plus the twists and turns along the Amalfi Drive are not for the uninitiated, even less so in darkness. Plus, you may be very tired after your flight and not in the best condition to be driving at night.
3. Once you arrive on the Amalfi Coast, the car will probably be useless and you'll end up keeping it parked for the duration of your stay.
4. If you arrange for a private car and driver, you'll end up paying around 200 Euros for a night transfer to Praiano. You'll arrive at your hotel around 2:00 a.m., and the proprietors won't be too happy to check you in at that time.
5. You'll pay less if you take a taxi (25 Euros) to the Starhotel Terminus in Naples (Piazza Garibaldi, 20 yards from the central train station), check in for one night, then take public transportation the next morning to Praiano. The next morning, buy a "UNICO CAMPANIA Fascia 5 U5 Ticket" for 3.30 Euros, which is good on the Circumvesuviana rail to Sorrento, plus the SITA bus connection to Praiano (you don't need two separate tickets). If you leave Naples around 8:00 a.m., you'll be in Praiano around 11:00 a.m., a decent arrival time.

That's a bad time to arrive! I don't think there'a ny good solution but especially with one four days, I don't think you'll enjoy a train station hotel in Naples much either. If you can afford it (and where you are going in Praiano is ok with a late late arrival), I'd book the private driver - you can always go back on public transport at the end of your stay to evne out the cost. Drive there and public transport back shouldn't be more than the cost of the car (and still the problem remains of renting so late at night) and you'll wake up in Praiano in the morning all ready to enjoy your stay.
We were just in Praiano a few weeks ago. Enjoy.
