To start and end in the 'heart' of bothe cities, start at Venice Santa Lucia and end in the Santa Maria Novella Station in Florence.

Good afternoon, Marlow
Departure from Venice would be from the Venice Santa Lucia station on the Grand Canal, normally arrival in Firenze would be at the Firenze Santa
Maria Novella station, just about two blocks from the Buomo....Time enroute wold be about 3.5 hours depending upon
the type of train you take.. Richard of LaGrange Park, IL

To be exact, it is 2hr 49mins on ES.
Most IC trains leave from Mestre.
Also, I think Richard meant "Duomo" rather than "Buomo".

Both dicky2 and Rex are approximatley correct. The morning train takes 2hrs and 49 minutes without a change of trains while the one WITH a train change is close to 3.5 hours from Santa Lucia in Venice. Use www.eurorailways.com and choice timetables for future schedules. Mike
