My travel agent has us checking out of a hotel on Sunday in Florence and in Siena on a Sunday. I've just read trains often strike on Sat. and Sundays. Is it worth it to change our itinerary? Any help would be appreciated.

In Europe, train strikes most often occur on days ending in "y".

Our last trip there was an unannounced wildcat strike on Thursday in France.

"Often" means 3-4 time a year. Strikes in italy are on Saturday-Sunday (usually 24 hours, since Saturday at 9 pm to Sunday at 9 pm) because these are the days that will cause less trouble to the commuters. Also, in Italy train strikes can only occur in certain periods (not in summer and not at big holidays) and must be planned with a certain advance, so in case there is a planned strike you will be able to learn about it some 2 weeks in advance and change your plans accordingly.

I think that is is a major violation of the railway's workers basic right to protest. But that's how it works.
