Hi
Need some advice.
Has anyone had experience booking online train tickets with bahn.hafas.de from US.
They have some good online sales for travel in germany and poland.
I will be in Berlin in sept. and would like to buy them now.

I used www.bahn.de last month to buy online train tickets for travel within Germany without any problem.

Peg, there's nothing wrong with buying your tickets at the station.
For us, budget-conscious travelers, we prefer to buy advance discount tickets which are not available at last minute. R/t tickets for Berlin/Dresden for 2 people are €144 full price, but only €81 when we buy in advance online. The difference of €63 is enough to pay for our overnight hotel in Dresden. Since our schedule is pretty much set in stone, we don't really need flexibility which you get when you buy tickets at the last minute.

Yes, I do it all the time. I just bought tickets from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Paris (Sep) and to Basel (Nov). You get a pdf, and you print it out on your own computer. You can get great deals if you purchase 90 days in advance. Got rt to Paris for about 100E, and first class rt to Basel 100E.

Yes, it is the same website. HAFAS is the acronym for the software system of www.bahn.de.
I have bought tickets online at least 150 times - it is the cheapest and most convenient way to do it.
In order to catch a super-saver ticket, you should buy your ticket EXACTLY 90 days before you travel - often they sell out very quickly. And try to be flexible with your connections.
But be aware that you are not flexible with the cheap tickets - you must take the connections as shown.
