train to venice from rome

I am planning to take a train (second class) to Venice from Rome. Would it be inappropriate to bring a sandwich on board to eat en route?

We brought breakfast snacks from McDonald's in the Rome station.

I would definitely suggest bringing something. I didn't see any signs or anything saying we couldn't.

There was a snack bar, but by the time we got there - they were sold out of most of the stuff we wanted.

Thanks. I have been in Rome many times but have not done much train travel. I did not want to appear too rude.

Hello s2000bob, many Italian friends of mine, residents of Italy, bring food with them when travelling by train in Italy. You will not appear rude at all. Get a picnic type meal together and enjoy your meal while on the train. You might want to bring something to drink too, water, soda, wine. And enjoy your time in beautiful Italy!

Hi S,

Bring a sandwich, a bottle of wine and a dessert.

Make sure that you have a corkscrew, glasses and napkins.

Don't bring anything too aromatic.
